RENT CONTROL GHANA HAS ONLY 58 DISTRICT OFFICE OUT OF 260 DISTRICTS IN GHANA.
The woes of the Rent control department in Ghana may not be over anytime soon as they grapple with limited resources and offices to operate. The department was set up by law to oversee rent related issues. It is supposed to work co-operatively with landlords and tenants to promote optimum peaceful co-existence through education, reconciliation. While also providing advice on rent matters in compliance with the Rent Act 220. But with just 58 districts offices, one may wonder how they are expected to function properly. Is it however important to note that most tenants are unaware or have understood ,or know about the rent laws in Ghana, the results of which is laws being broken by both landlords and tenants. The case in Ghana usually is landlords demanding for 1 and 2 years rent advance which is in direct contravention with the rent laws which stipulates that landlords should charge rent in advance of 6 months. Any attempts aimed at enforcing the laws ends in rhetoric’s.
