Western Togoland secssionist group at it again
Travellers commuting the Volta Region are cautioned by the Ghana Police Service of heavy vehicular traffic from Accra to Ho. Affected areas are Aveyime, Adidome, Mepe, Akuse, Sogakope and Aflao.
The disturbing situation is attributed to disturbance by secessionist group, Homeland Study Foundation who are believed to have blocked some roads leading to and from the Volta Region.
According to the police, this is as a result of security operations ongoing within those areas following roadblocks believed to have been perpetrated by secessionist group, Homeland Study Foundation also known as Western Togoland Group.
It is reported that the Sogakofe Divisional Commander, Chief Supt Dennis Fiakpi and three (3) other police officers are being held hostage in Avayime-Battor. There are also reports of attacks on a number of police posts amidst the burning of car tyres.
The Volta Regional Minister Dr. Achibald Letsa has asked travellers to keep calm as national security personnel try to salvage the situation.
He reiterated that travellers stay calm and stay put, and pay heed to instructions from security personnel that will be deployed to the area to ensure their safety.
“They have to be calm and take instructions from the security agency,” he said.
