The President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned seventy-five greenhouses and an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, at Dawhenya, constructed by the Ministry of Business Development and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Plan. This is the biggest green village estate in Ghana, and, indeed in West Africa. The seventy-five (75) greenhouses here can produce four thousand, five hundred (4,500) tonnes of tomatoes annually, bringing in a yearly revenue of some eleven million cedis (GH¢11 million), and employing a total of two hundred and thirty (230) people. Already, vegetables from this farm are being sold at Shop rite, Farmers Market, Eden Tree, among others. It must be noted that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has constructed three Greenhouse farming villages at Kasoa, Dawhenya and Akomadan which is expected to contribute to a boost in vegetable farming. Each site comprises about 50 hectares of land each of which can accommodate up to 26 greenhouse facilities. Government’s sent 120 graduates to Israel to learn greenhouse farming. The trainees will also be attached to host farmers who are required to train them in various forms of agricultural practices such as irrigation, aquaculture, and vegetable farming, among others.
